Yep, this is me..

About me.

Hi, I am Emile and I am in my fourth year of college. I am studying Communication and Multi media design at the University of Applied sciences in Amsterdam. In the first two years I learned UX and UI design. I later found out that I wanted to become a front end developer. So I completed the Minor webdesign and development, which gave me a good set of skills in HTML, CSS, Javascript, Node js and Mongodb. My goal is to find an internship to show and use but mostly improve my skills in front end development.

My skills.

In the first two years I’ve learned a lot about UX and UI design. Since the past year and a half I’ve learned a lot about front end development and set up a wide range of skills, but there is of course a lot more to learn.

HTML

CSS

Javascript

Node js

Mongo db

UX and UI

HTML

The first thing that I learned was of course HTML. Because of the strict rules on our school I learned to write good semantic HTML without any unnecessary div's ;). In the last couple of months I realized the strengths of HTML and all the features that it contains. I thought I was already done learning about HTML. But I realized it had far more to offer than I ever realized. In the last couple of months I also learned a lot about EJS. With EJS I learned to write dynamic HTML combined with Node js and Javascript.

CSS

In the past three years I learned quite some things about CSS. I started with the basics like positioning, using external fonts, styling of a form and many other things. When I had a grip on the basics I started learning the more difficult subjects. My main focus was learning responsive design. Right now I've got quit some experience with flex-box and grid, but there is of course a lot more to learn. One of my main focus learning points for CSS is learning a lot more about animations.

Javascript

In the last year and a half I learned a lot about Javascript. I learned the simple things like manipulating the dom but I also learned a lot about the more complex subjects. I learned to work with API's, to build a search engine, to render and influence HTML, to build a filtering system and a lot more that can be found in my recent projects. I've got a lot to learn with Javascript but I am confident that I will master the programming language completely.

Node js

While I was studying the minor webdesign and development I learned to use Node js. With Node js I learned a lot about server side rendering of Javascript code. With Node js I learned about using different packages to fetch an API, collect form data, storing this in a database and combine Nodejs, client side Javascript and EJS together for a website that is a lot more dynamic than just "normal" HTML. I also combined Node js with websockets to maintain a constant connection between every user. I also used Node js to build a web application where it is possible to run the website offline via service workers and where the API data that is necessary is rendered server side.

Mongo DB

In the last part of my minor I wanted to learn how to use a Database. I chose to learn about Mongodb because it offers a great and easy service to learn about databases. In my case because I was a student it was free. In my last project I worked with Mongodb and Mongoose so I could easily collect and mutate data. In this project multiple job offers could be stored in the database. The account that the user had made was also stored in the database, which is combined with a completely functional register and login system. The users where able to save job offers to there accounts to later see these job offers again. Because of this project I learned a lot about Mongodb and how to use and manipulate a database. This is one of the projects I am most proud of because without any help I had to learn Mongodb.

UX and UI

Although I decided to presue my career in front end development I still have a good two years experience with UX and UI design. I understand that the developers don't design the products, but because of my experience I will always have an opinion or feedback ready about the design we are working on and will help contribute in every way possible

My work.

Over the last year I built multiple project that I am really proud of. Here is a showcase of all those projects. Most of the projects where build with Node js and EJS combined with client-side Javascript. You can always lookup my Github profile under the name EmileKost to find all my projects and the readme’s for further explanation.

Right now I am available for a short internship of ten weeks. In those ten weeks I really want to show and improve my skills in front end development and also want to contribute to real life projects. Right after this internship I have to do an other internship of a half year. I am really excited to learn and improve my front end development skills at your company! If interested, please contact me via email or phone! I am sure I would give my absolute all to contribute as an intern at your company and hope to develop some beautiful projects!
